Growth plan not working

THE EDITOR, Sir:
This is an open letter to Dr. Omar Davies.
DR. DAVIES, increasing the tax burden is so easy for you to do. Have you given thought to how painful it is for the average person to pay another dollar in taxes? Most Jamaicans that I know are struggling to survive. What we Jamaicans need, Dr. Davies, is not for you to increase the tax burden but to increase the tax base.
Why add salt to an open wound? A sick patient needs a good doctor. Where is your plan to encourage investments in Jamaica? Where is your plan to create jobs for the thousands of unemployed? Where is your plan to increase the economic and social welfare of all Jamaicans?
Dr. Davies, working towards increasing the tax base is your only solution. You cannot and should not rely on tax increases to finance the Budget. I am sorry to say, but what Jamaica needs is an economic growth plan that is realistic and executable and someone who is dedicated to making the plan work. Dr. Davies, your economic growth plan is not working.
