New services for Port of Kingston
published: Tuesday | April 29, 2003

MINISTER OF Transport and Works, Robert Pickersgill, announced the introduction of two new shipping services to the Port of Kingston this year involving major shipping lines such as Evergreen, Lloyd Trestino of Italy - a subsidiary of Evergreen, ZIM Israeli, CMA-CGM, and P&O NedLloyd.

He said the services would link the Port of Kingston with ports in the Far East, U.S. Gulf, ports in Asia, Mexico, West Coast, and other ports of the Caribbean, facilitating greater market opportunities for Jamaica's exports.

The two new services will add 203,280 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) in 2003/4 to operations at the Terminal, resulting in a projected throughput in 2003/4 of 1,131,441 TEUs, compared to a throughput traffic of 980,735 TEUs last year. The number of ship calls in 2003/4 is projected at 1,600 compared to 1,424 last year.
