Honouring our true heroes

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE BABBLE engaged in by the politicians, in the southwest St. Ann constituency, would be comedic if these fellows were not in deadly earnest. In regard to those ideas put forward as to what honour is to be paid to the fallen American hero, United States Marine Corporal Bernard Brent Gooden, I would like to call the attention of those 'august' gentlemen to the fact that this unfortunate young man, who died much too young, has not done a single thing in the service of Bohemia and Jamaica. He does not merit the re-naming of the Bohemia All-Age School in his honour.
I have a much better idea: re-name the city of Baghdad Gooden City. After all, that is where his blood was spilled.
And, while we are on the subject of re-naming my alma mater, the Bohemia All-Age School, I believe that honour should be reserved for my beloved teacher, the former Miss Johnson, who has given 30-odd years in service to that community, teaching people like Corporal Gooden. We should honour our true heroes.
