Priory canteen closure sparks PTA protest
published: Friday | May 2, 2003

THE PRIORY High School Trust has denied reports that it was responsible for the abrupt closure of the school's canteen, which led to protest action by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) at the school on Wednesday.

The Trust, which owns the St. Andrew school, said that the former canteen concessionaire had bailed out on the students without giving notice.

Trust secretary Jeanne Robinson said that protest action by the Parent-Teacher Association on Wednesday was uncalled for, as the closure was as much a shock to the Trust as it was to the school and the PTA.

TERMINATED

The Priory PTA executive protested the canteen's closure on Wednesday, stating that the Trust had terminated the contract of the former concessionaire months before a new concessionaire was due to start in September. This left the entire school operation in a tailspin, as over 300 students there have been left without an official canteen for the rest of the school year. The closure forced an early end to school on Monday.
