Cops reveal names of station attackers
published: Friday | May 2, 2003

THE POLICE have released the identities of the two men who were shot, one fatally, after an attempted hold up at the Alexandria Police Station in St. Ann on Monday morning.

The dead man is 26-year-old Kevin Gordon also known as 'Yellow', 'Brown Man' and 'Basha' of Runaway Bay, St. Ann. Injured is 17-year-old George Nelson, otherwise called 'Crazy G' of Big Lane, Central Village, St. Catherine.

Gordon reportedly had five convictions, three in St. James and two in Trelawny. He was reportedly serving a 10-year sentence for robbery and illegal possession of firearm when he made his escape from the General Penitentiary in May, 2002.

STILL SEARCHING

Meanwhile the police are seeking two men known only as 'Flash' and "Shacka Dread" of Central Village and Alexandria respectively for questioning in connection with the incident.

Police reports are that about 12:30 on Monday morning three men travelling in a white Toyota Corolla motor car stopped and knocked on the closed door of the Alexandria Police Station.

Two of the men told a police constable who answered that they had come to report a robbery.

When he opened the door for them to enter the station one of the men held on to him while the other pointed a gun in his direction. The policeman wrested himself from the men and shot at them with his service revolver.

The men ran from the station to a waiting car where one fell. The other two boarded the vehicle while firing back at the police.

SHOTGUN RECOVERED

The police recovered a home made shotgun with two cartridges from the man who collapsed during his bid to escape.

Later, residents took another man believed to be one of the attackers, to the station. He was suffering from gunshot wounds.

Both injured men were taken to the St. Ann's Bay Hospital where Gordon was pronounced dead and Nelson admitted under policeguard. Previous reports were that both men had died.
