KC lift KO crown
published: Saturday | May 3, 2003

By Daraine Luton, Staff Reporter

KINGSTON COLLEGE captured the Jamaica International Insurance Company KO Trophy after pulling of a nine-run victory over Jonathan Grant in yesterday's final at Melbourne Oval.

The 'Purples' batted first and posted 194-9 off their allotted 40 overs, and returned to bowl out Jonathan Grant for 186 to secure the silverware.

Batting for KC, Andre Hall topscored with 63, 10 more than Christopher Walker who made 53. Cion Barrett (2-42), Carlos Crookshank (2-33) and Nkrumah Bonner (2-36) were the pick of the Spanish Town side bowlers

In reply, Jonathan Grant recovered from a precarious position at 79-5 to come within eight runs of victory when KC effected a slide.

Batting at number 7, Donald McCallum (32) and number four batsman Cion Barrett (46) showed very little respect for the KC attack, playing shots all around the ground. Their effort was also aided by an ultra-defensive approach adopted by the KC skipper Brian Latore.

With the score on 167 and a Jonathan Grant victory in sight Malcolm, who was earlier given a life, attempted to sweep Nicholas Morrison (who conceded 13 runs in his first over) and was hit in-front the stumps. Barrett went bowled in Morrison's next over and Karl Lewis lofted a catch to long off, plunging Jonathan Grant into further trouble at 179-8. Needing to get 16 runs from 15 balls both sides took it down to 39.4 overs when number 10 man Crookshank was stumped for 6, giving KC victory.
