THE SIXTH annual Caribbean Media Conference (CMC), originally slated for later this month in Guadeloupe, has been rescheduled for October.
Catherine Chicate-Moibert, a public relations consultant for the CMC, said the rescheduling was done out of a need by the organisers to have "everybody available for the conference, It is very important that this thing is organised properly," she said. "We didn't have the required funds then so we couldn't do it. Now we have the funds but there are some other considerations. There is this conference and another one in Costa Rica...it would be asking a lot of people to attend all these functions so we felt it would be best if we rescheduled until October."
Ms. Chicate-Moibert said that despite some language and cultural barriers, it was important that media practitioners in the Caribbean started to speak with one voice, noting that we need "our own CNN for the Caribbean."
"There should be no barriers," she said. "There are things happening in Guadeloupe and in other islands that people are not aware of...you will find people being more aware of what is happening in the United States and Europe than what is happening in the region. The conference, organised by RFO in conjunction with the Region Guadelope and to be held from October 1-4 will seek to address all these issues."
