THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE REALIGNMENT of our economy, the management of debt, the reshaping of family and community and the coping with a heartless global neo-imperialism, cannot be achieved unless there is a great measure of bi-partisan and societal consensus locally.
The resumption of the dream of October 16, 2002, of open co-operative relations between Government and Opposition must be a national priority.
The public for its part must require that the Vale Royal meetings take place on a continuing basis and be sincere and far-reaching.
Confidence could be greatly uplifted if our leaders were to humble themselves and genuinely share problems and solutions among themselves and with us.
Three things are clear - neither side nor any group in or out of Gordon House has all the answers or the inspiration to effect required change; it is very clear who constitutes Government and Opposition for the next five years and the search for common cause and a commitment to live it would energise the country in new and dramatic ways.
These times are full of opportunity if we think and behave creatively.
I am, etc.,
