By Anthony Foster, Gleaner WriterLUCAS RECORDED one of three second round victories in the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) Super League competition yesterday, defeating the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) by eight wickets at Nelson Oval.
Replying to JDF's first innings total of 176, Lucas resuming yesterday's second on 155 for eight, were dismissed for 162 with Wayne Cuff taking 5-51. However, batting a second time, JDF were blown away for 114, to which Lucas raced to victory at 129 for two.
When JDF batted a second time, Omar Ellington, 29, and Howard Copeland, 25, top-scored against off-spinner Gareth Breese 4-42. Set 128 to win, Oniel Powell, 64, and Maurice Clarke, 53, shared in an unbroken third-wicket stand of 123 to lead their team to victory.
AT ALPART: Off-spinner Alton Beckford finished with match figures of 10 for 34 to lead St. Elizabeth to an easy 99-run victory over St. Catherine CC in a low-scoring game.
Starting the day on 108 for four St. Catherine, in search of 210 for first innings points, found things hard and declared at 115 for nine against Beckford, 5 wickets for eight runs.
In their second innings, St. Catherine again faltered and were dismissed for 113 with Kerron Baker, 35, and Dave Ledgister, 24, leading the way against off-spinner Bevon Brown 5-18 and Odean Brown 2-39.
Set 207 to win, Beckford, a student at St. Elizabeth Technical, was again on top by taking 5-26 as only Danza Hyatt, 41, Renford Pinnock Jnr., and Dean Morgan, 20 each, reached double figures. Jerome Taylor 2-10 and Baker 2-35 supported Beckford.
AT SABINA PARK: Kingston defeated St. Ann by an innings and 22 runs.
Fast bowler Audley Sanson 4-36 and Nehemiah Perry 2-2 combined to dismiss St. Ann for 134 after they started the day on 71 for three in search Kingston's first innings total of 344.
Forced to follow-on, despite half centuries from Victor Barracks, 66, and Xavier Marshall, 58, St. Ann were again bowled out for 188. Leg-spinner Kerry Scott finished with 5-77 and left-arm spinner Ryan Cunningham 3-34.
AT ALLAN RAE OVAL: Despite Evon McEnnis' match figures of 11-96, last year's beaten all-island finalist Westmoreland and Kensington played to a draw.
Westmoreland started the day on 133, 24 runs behind Kensington's first innings of 157, but with half centuries from McEnnis, 64, and Vinard Woolcock, 61 not out they reached 238 against Test players David Bernard Jnr. 5-66 and Daren Powell 3-71.
In their second turn at the crease, Kensington made 218 with Maurice Kepple, 75, and Bernard, 26, scoring most runs against McEnnis 8-58. Westmoreland were 85 for six at the close, Marcus Stewart ending with 3-13 and Kevin Peart 2-20.
AT PORT ESQUIVEL: Ray Stewart scored an even hundred but his team Melbourne had to settle for first innings points against St. Catherine Cricket Association.
Melbourne, replying to St. Catherine CA's 113, declared at 203 for nine with Stewart getting 100 against Colin Buchanan 3-33, Lascelles Davis 3-51. In their second turn at bat, St. Catherine were 160 for seven with Junior Stewart scoring 60 against Damion Jacobs 2-34.
