Sandals Resorts to offer complimentary vacations
published: Thursday | May 8, 2003

Stewart

SANDALS RESORTS International will be offering complimentary vacations worth US$2 million to members of the United States armed forces who are now serving at home and abroad.

The programme, dubbed "Operation Relax", commences this Friday, when US$1 million worth of four day-three night vacations will be given directly to active members of the armed forces.

SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME

An additional US$1 million worth of vacations will be donated via a sponsorship programme, which will allow consumers and travel agents to earn vacations for service people from their local communities. When consumers book through their travel agents and pay in full for a stay of six nights or longer, in a premium rooms or higher, Sandals and Beaches Resorts will give that travel agency a complimentary three-night vacation to be given to a member of the armed forces in their area.

This follows previous efforts by the group which, after the 1991 Persian Gulf War, also donated vacations valued at US$1 million to Gulf War veterans.

Chairman of Sandals International, Gordon "Butch" Stewart, said that it was a great honour to do something for the US which, he said, had offered him numerous opportunities.

"These people have given so much, it's a great source of pride and honour that we too can do something special for them," he said in a news release.
