WESTERN BUREAU:
AFTER MONTHS of remaining closed, the former Jack Tar Village Hotel in Montego Bay has reopened as a new business venture.
The resort, now named the Montego Beach Hotel, reopened a few days ago and is being marketed as a premier golf destination. Operators of the 131-room property have launched a major marketing thrust to attract guests from the United States, Canada and Europe, according to a release issued through a communications firm. The release said Hescov Investments Limited, the Montego Bay-based company that owns the resort, has undertaken to manage the property.
Jack Tar Village closed its doors on September 30 last year, leaving 150 employees jobless. The hotel was scheduled to be reopened in time for the start of the winter tourist season in December, last year, but a bid by the Issa family's Couples Resorts to take over the running of the Gloucester Avenue property fell through.
