St Elizabeth take first innings points

ST. ELIZABETH Parish took first innings points over Melbourne as draws dominated the Jamaica Cricket Association's (JCA) Super League third round matches yesterday.

AT MELBOURNE: Shane Powell led St. Elizabeth's charge for first innings honours against the host in their drawn game. Resuming on their overnight 176 for six, St. Elizabeth were dismissed for 246 with Powell getting 89 (10x4, 2x6) against leg-spinner Damion Jacobs 3-36, Ramon Hutchinson 3-60 and Fitzroy Peterkin 2-53. In their second knock Melbourne fell for 206 against off-spinner Kerron Baker 4-45 and 16-year-old Alton Beckford 3-48. Robert Samuels, 54, Donovan Pagon, 48, top-scored for Melbourne, who did not have to bowl at St. Elizabeth a second time as the game was called off with seven overs left to be bowled.

AT KAISER: Despite a 94-ball knock 125 from West Indies discard Leon Garrick, St. Ann had to settle for first innings points from St. Catherine Parish. St. Catherine Parish, starting the day on 139 for seven were bowled out for 179 with Xavier Charvis getting 58 against Andre Dwyer 3-24 and Xavier Marshall 2-39.

In their second turn at the crease, Garrick hit 23 fours and one six in his 106-minutes stay at the crease to top-score in St. Ann's 261 for six declared. He got good support from captain William McKoy, 53 (8x4) against Lascelles Davis 3-77 and Colin Buchanan 3-115.

Set 281 to win, St. Catherine reached 211 for three at the close with half centuries from Gregory Buchanan, Jonathan Smith and Howard Harris. Buchanan hit 14 fours and one six in his 88, Smith got 58, while Harris' 50 came from 31 deliveries with five sixes and three fours against Marshall 3-71.

AT CHEDWIN PARK: St. Catherine CC took first innings points from leaders Lucas.

Lucas, who started yesterday's final day on 38 without loss were bowled out for 177 as only Wayne Gayle, 63, and Royan Smith, 40, were able to cope with leg-spinner Odean Brown 6-51 and Bevon Brown 3-50.

St. Catherine batting a second time were 130 for six, Keith Hibbert, 38, and Tamar Lambert, 25, got most runs against Dwayne Watson 2-31 and Omar Burke 2-29.

AT UP PARK CAMP: Wayne Cuff hit 87 to lead JDF to first innings honours against Kensington.

JDF replying to Kensington's first innings 202 were dismissed for 229 with Mel Wint, 39, and Kamal Dennis, 35 not out, made useful contribution against Wavell Hinds 5-63. Batting a second time, Kensington were 171 for four at the close with Shavar Brown, 63 not out, Howard Powell, 36, and David Bernard Jnr., 25 getting most runs.

AT ALLAN RAE OVAL: Despite a second rain interrupted day, Kingston got first innings points from Westmoreland.

Westmoreland started the on 151 for nine added two more runs before Audley Sanson picked up the last wicket to end with 2-44. In their innings, Kingston scored 217 with Matthew Sinclair, 69, and Raymond Ferguson, 27, getting most runs against Evan McInnis 6-71. Westmoreland were 46 for one when play was called off.
