Tax refunds
published: Tuesday | May 13, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PERSONS WHO cannot get their tax refunds need to start writing in and letting their voices be heard. This is how the Passport Office got sorted out.

I know taxpayers who cannot get their refunds which have been outstanding from the Nineties. They are pensioners who are not used to the confrontational approach. They are also probably intimidated by the vast powers of victimisation that this Department has.

Details of outstanding amounts appear on a computer screen every day at the Tax Department. It appears that no one is in charge.

Interest should be paid on these amounts at the rate that arrears are charged for. Some of this should be deducted from the massive increases in salaries recently received.

Taxpayers, stand up for your rights now.

I am, etc.,

PETER RAMSAY
