Air fares too high!
published: Tuesday | May 13, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

MY QUESTION is: Did Jamaica move on the map? Why is it so expensive to fly to Jamaica nowadays, especially from Florida which is just 1 1/2 hours away? It now costs approximately US$600 for one adult round trip from Florida to Jamaica and for a child it is approximately US$500. This is ridiculous!

This is the reason why people refuse to travel to Jamaica often: the fares are too high! Come Mr Stewart, if you want more foreign exchange to come into Jamaica you "haffi lower di fares!" Jamaica is my country too, and unfortunately I would love to come home more often but I can't afford it, and when I hear the Americans say they prefer to take a European vacation cause the fares are cheaper than going to Jamaica, I feel so ashamed!

My question remains: Did Jamaica move on the map?

I am etc.,
