THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN RECENT times I have voiced my disgust amongst co-workers and family friends concerning the bitter and at times inhumane treatment dished out to the public by police officers. The aforementioned opinion is derived from related experiences of known and unknown persons as well as my very own.
Nevertheless, I was and still am very impressed by Constables McLean and Anderson attached to May Pen police headquarters who were on duty along the Bustamante Highway on Holy Thursday night April 17.
On my way home at about 8:00 p.m., I realised that my headlamps were not adjusting. Soon after, the light went totally and the horn refused to respond. I slowed to a stop near to the junction that leads to Foga Road. However, my attempt to restart proved futile.
I called for help from home approximately 10 miles away. But on a lonely highway without street lights and a five-year-old on the back seat, I was truly scared. About five minutes later, a police car heading in my direction seeing the parked vehicle turned at the junction and ordered me out of the vehicle. Their approach however changed on realising my gender.
The cops attempted to get the car started but it did not respond. Ten minutes later my help came. The policemen could have left but they did not. Instead, they assisted us in tying my car to the pickup and piloted us home. They saw us through to the very end.
Hats off gentlemen! My family really appreciated it and want Jamaica to know that good cops are still out there. Too often we hear only about the bad apples. Thanks a million.
I am, etc.,
