THE GRAND Cayman Port Authority recently announced re-development plans for the country's main port facility.
According to news reports from that country, the Port Authority's docking facilities will be strengthened and enhanced, offering greater serviceability of the local shipping trade, on completion of its finger pier re-development project. The project, to cost $5.5 million, is expected to boost the local shipping trade.
The project will involve Tampa's Misener Marine Construction, Inc., the Burns Conolly Group, which is undertaking project management and a local workforce from Myles Construction. Misener designed and built back the Creek dock (Cayman Brac) in the 1980s.
Scheduled for completion in six months, the project will be of benefit to the local economy by improving loading and off-loading of cargo operations, enabling more efficient use of the port's crane.
