A NEW board of directors has been named for the Postal Corporation of Jamaica Ltd., the government company set up to operate the island's postal
services.
The board which is mandated to drive the post office to a position of self-sufficiency within two years, was appointed by Phillip Paulwell, Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology.
The directors are: Lance Hylton, chairman; Dr. Blossom O'Meally Nelson, chief executive officer of the corporation; Maureen Webber; Angela Brown-Burke, Ann-Marie Dobson; Kymani Robinson; Robert Stephenson; Bradley Gunter; Paul Collins; Ian Kelly; Patrick McDonald, company secretary; Clive Robinson; Andrea Walters; and a staff representative to be named soon.
Speaking at the board's first meeting earlier this year, Mr. Paulwell stated that the current $300 million per year deficit was an unsustainable strain on the nation's budget.
FULL MODERNISATION
He commended Mrs. O'Meally-Nelson, the Postmaster-General and CEO, on the work which has been done to reform the post office, and urged the board to carry on and "accelerate the work towards full modernisation and commercialisation".
Last week, the board members toured the site of the Jamaica Post Commercial Complex, which will feature a state-of-the-art post office and more than 21 other commercial and professional establishments. The complex is expected to open this summer.
