AT THE recent Europe Day reception, celebrated pianist Peter Ashbourne played in public for the first time with son, Jeremy, who is as adept on the drums as dad is tickling the ivories. Kept quite a few guests snapping their fingers on some jazzy tunes. Chip off the old block.

AMBASSADOR STAYS: Speaking of diplomats, recently heard that our friends from Germany, Ambassador Dr. Hausmann and his wife, Harriet Huber, have had their stay extended. That means at least another three years of Jamaica's warm climate. We're happy to still have you here.

...AMBASSADOR GOES: While the Germans are staying with us, Chinese Ambassador Guo Chongli has departed. The amicable Chongli was here for nearly four years and was a busy man. Under his supervision, the embassy oversaw the donation of funds to flood victims, as well as the laying of pipes to aid the Government's water supply project. New Chinese Ambassador, Zhao Zhenyu, is already in the island and has some big shoes to fill. Welcome Ambassador!
