Superintendent dead at 50
published: Sunday | May 18, 2003

By Onika Campbell, Freelance Writer

WESTERN BUREAU:

SUPERINTENDENT OF the Hanover Parish Council, Ainsworth Forbes died on Friday at his home in Osbourne Store, Clarendon, after suffering from lung cancer.

Mr. Forbes, who has held the position of superintendent at various Parish Councils across the island including Manchester, Trewlany, West-moreland and Clarendon, served at the Hanover Parish Council for three years.

He died approximately 11:00 a.m. at home, in the arms of his wife, Pauline. She told The Sunday Gleaner before breaking down in tears that Mr. Forbes, who had been in and out of the hospital, had come home for the last time on Wednesday.

Describing her husband's final moments she said, "I gave him some tea and saw it come up through the tube that was placed in his nose for feeding. I called the doctor (who was present) and he said there is nothing that could be done because it is only a matter of time.

"I saw, him cast his eyes and I said 'daddy' (her name for him) is looking for me, then I see him jump, and again, I began hugging and kissing him. Then I saw his face as if he was going to cry and I said 'don't cry'. He cast his eyes and smiled with me as his lifeless body went down on the bed from my hands."

Meanwhile, Mayor of Lucea Councillor Lloyd Hill expressed condolences on the behalf of the Council. Mayor Hill also urged prospective superintendents to take a leaf from Mr. Forbes' book.

"He is deeply missed by all of us, it is a big miss. During his years at the Council he has worked exceptionally well with the projects and I am asking that the other superintendents to come take a leaf from his book," the Mayor said. Mr. Forbes died leaving two children, Sean, 29, and Shanice 4.
