Santos draw first blood
published: Sunday | May 18, 2003

By Charmaine Austin, Staff Reporter

"WE DON'T know about anybody else, but we will be there for sure."

So said Santos' coach Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis as his team eyed a KSAFA Super league final place after beating Duhaney Park in their first leg semi-final game at the Constant Spring field yesterday.

Shawn Freckleton gave his team the advantage after scoring in the 43rd minute.

"We didn't dominate the way we wanted to but it was a workman-like effort overall. Our only regret is that we didn't score more goals," Dennis said after the 1-0 victory.

In the first game of the double header, Boys' Town secured a 3-2 win over the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

The JDF scored first through an Eric Ranglin strike in the 15th minute but Boys' Town layed in ambush and soon equalised through Dean Thompson in the 29th minute. Michael Campbell put the team ahead on the stroke of halftime.

Terrence Jarrett allowed the Soldiers to pull level in the 65th minute but Oniel Thompson secured victory for Boys' Town with an 83rd minute strike that gives them the edge going into the second leg semi-final next week Saturday.

The games will be played at Emmett Park with Santos against Duhaney Park at 1:30 p.m. followed by Boys' Town against the JDF.

Santos topped the standings in the preliminary round ahead of the JDF, Boys' Town and Duhaney Park.

Based on the performances of the teams in yesterday's games, punters have predicted a Santos-Boys' Town final.
