THE LATEST Fame road party was entitled 'King Size' and it certainly lived up to the billing. Held last Saturday night at Mas Camp in New Kingston, patrons were turned away from the gate in the wee hours of the morning, for, as MC François St. Juste put it, their own safety.
Arif 'the Turntable Technician' Cooper and 'The Captain' Colin Hines shared music playing duties for most of the night, with Kurt Riley putting in a brief cameo. They delivered very good sets utilising music from any number of genres and did very little talking, preferring to let the music speak for itself.
If there was a problem, it would be that there was, unusually enough, only one bar. This meant that confusion reigned and tempers were frayed among patrons who stood five deep trying to get their beverages of choice from frazzled bar staff.
Music aside, the latest Frat Gear was modelled by women from Hard Copy and males from Champs, who appeared in less and less clothes with each appearance on-stage, which the loud crowd adored if their shouts and screams of approval were anything to go by.
The FAME team was introduced and the screams were just as loud with each name François said and then it was back to more turntable magic.
Mas Camp throbbed with music and people, the latter of which was due for an unexpected treat. Taking another break from pre-recorded music, François announced the arrival on-stage of Damion 'Baby Cham' Beckett, who proceeded to tear the place apart with songs such as Bad Mind, the crowd gleefully chiming in on the chorus. Cham would then call on THE STAR's 'Artiste of the Month' for April, Assassin, who was equally well-received with songs such as Roughest. A singer, simply named 'J', also put in an appearance and delivered a song a capella, much to the delight of the ladies. Baby Cham would take back the microphone one last time, a huge grin splitting his face as he stalked the stage from side to side with one arm waving, drinking in his fans' adulation. Jana Bent had earlier put in a short, sexy cameo as well.
By then 3 a.m. was long gone and everyone partied until the sky became orange tinged and then they went home in various states of inebriation, the victims of another excellent FAME road party.
