Lawson
JAMAICA AND West Indies fast bowler Jermaine Lawson has been ruled out of the remainder of the Cable & Wireless one-day series against Australia.
According to a West Indies Cricket Board release yesterday, Lawson, who failed a fitness test before the opening match on Saturday, is suffering from bulging discs in the lower back and will undergo physiotherapy and rehabilitation in Jamaica for a minimum of two weeks.
Lawson's injury will be monitored by Dr. Akshai Mansingh and the physiotherapy and rehabilitation will be supervised by physiotherapist Elizabeth Robinson and trainer David Bernard.
During the fourth Test against Australia, Lawson was reported to the International Cricket Council by umpires David Shepherd and Srinivas Venkataraghavan for a suspect bowling action. His action is now under review by the ICC, and after the two weeks of rehabilitation he will go to Antigua where he will work with former West Indies fast bowler Andy Roberts.
HOLDING WAS SLATED TO DEAL WITH LAWSON'S ACTION
Former Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding was the man slated to deal with Lawson's action on behalf of the ICC, but because of television commitments he will not be available. He suggested that Roberts, his former Test colleague, take over, and the ICC agreed.
"Right now, Jermaine is in pain," said West Indies Board president Wes Hall yesterday, "the priority is to get rid of the pain, and when that is achieved, he will be going to Andy (Roberts)."
Hall said that the fast bowler will be paid for the series.
