THE EDITOR, Sir:THE SCOURGE of violence cast its dark shadows on the citizens of Union Gardens, Kingston 13, in the form of the untimely and gruesome death of Phillip Anthony Taylor, a student of Denham Town Comprehensive High School and a young member of the Union Gardens community.
There was much grief due to this tragedy as the citizens tried to come to grips with such a loss. It is our aim to highlight the actions of those who assisted the family in their time of bereavement. We would like to thank the Hunts Bay Police especially Superintendent Claude Samuels, Head of the St. Andrew South Division, whose empathy and assistance helped the family of Phillip Taylor to cope with their loss. His actions epitomise the characteristics of good policing in terms of community support and relations. It also proves that there are good policemen in the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
The family of Phillip Taylor would also like to make special mention of Ms. Clover Thompson, Principal of Denham Town Comprehensive High School, members of the Union Gardens community and others who empathised with them in their time of bereavement.
Finally we pray that with the help from citizens and the actions of policemen like Superintendent Claude Samuels we can rid our island of this scourge of violence that robs us of our youths, our loved ones and our future.
We are etc.,
