THE EDITOR, Sir:
During the mid-sixties we had the opportunity of being blessed upon the visit of his Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie The First on his first and only visit to Jamaica.
This King had given to us as Rastafarians the most enlightening gift that was ever given to us 'The Haile Selassie Compre-hensive High School'. This was seen then as the school of the renaissance of our Rastafarians and 'Black People' in our quest for educating all who wish to participate in our Black Culture.
Over the years we have neglected this 'precious gift' and have stood idly and watched with bated breath as this educational centre gradually sank into total stagnation. With so many talented gifted and highly learned Rastafarian Brothers and Sisters who have distinguished themselves in the numerous fields of Education, Culture, and Business it has now become a sore point to us who claim to be Rastas.
I would have liked to see this as a Labour Day 2003 project. Rastas should make a physical contribution in the refurbishing of this school and a fund-raising programme should be immediately set up in establishing Rasta teachers, craftsmen and entertainers to pay the teachers and implement a programme for the school's future development. As the saying goes, he that is without knowledge is like unto a blind person.
I am, etc.,
