Assess yourself
published: Wednesday | May 28, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

AS I read the many letters and message boards on issues pertaining to the survival of Jamaica's economy, I began to say intellectual rhetoric will not solve our problems but action will. I started with a self-assessment and I was not impressed with what I found in myself. I was lacking the VERB of doing. We must stop pointing fingers, ask ourselves, how can we make a difference? What can we do to help in solving the problem(s)?

We must take a collective and practical role in shaping Jamaica, to critique without implementing steps to correct the many problems is non-productive. Absenteeism will not work, we have to take our skills and financial achievement and invest in Jamaica. We must remember our National Anthem and let those words become practical and real! It is time we help our brothers come in from the cold and be warm.

It is time we see ourselves as those foreign investors who have come home to create jobs for our people. In conclusion philosophizing will not solve our island's problems, let us together return and build a better Jamaica. Jah blessed.

I am, etc.,
