LETTERS OF THE DAY:
How proud I am

published: Sunday | June 1, 2003

McLeary

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I JUST had to write and say how proud I am of Trudy McLeary. She is awesome! I was so happy to hear that she came in third, of course I would have loved for her to win, but she is a winner.

For her to come as far as she had and place third in the Spelling Bee competition is wonderful. I was so proud how she handled herself and how polite she was in saying 'thank you sir/ma'am', she showed that not because she comes from a Third World country, she has manners and she represented Jamaica very well.

One of the reasons I visit Jamaica often is for the people: they make you feel so welcome. The commentator's remarks I didn't really care for they had made the statements that Jamaica has its own style and that Trudy talks very loudly, but I think they were just jealous.

A GREAT MARK

She made a great mark for us black people everywhere. I am just so proud of her. Out of 251, she came in 3rd, she should be very proud of herself and know that she is a winner and Jamaica is proud of her accomplishment. Way to go Trudy!

I am, etc.,

THERESA GRAVES
