Striving to provide quality service
published: Tuesday | June 3, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I write in response to the Letter of the Day, "Call For More Ja Consulates in Africa," carried in The Gleaner of Wednesday, 28 May 2003.

Let me assure the writer, Jacqueline Mutewa, that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is sensitive to and shares her concern over the need to address difficulties being experienced, especially in the area of Consular services in Africa.

Quite coincidentally, concerning her 'appeal' for the setting up of a Consulate in South Africa, I am sure Ms Mutewa will be happy to know that, despite challenging financial circumstances, this is a matter being actively pursued by the Ministry and an appropriate announcement will be made in due course. The Consulate should help to ease the burden from our High Commission in Abuja, Nigeria.

I use this opportunity to remind the public that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade is fully seized with the need to enhance our efficiency globally as we strive to provide quality service to those who rely on us.

I am etc.,

WILTON DYER

Information Officer
