More houses on the way, says Buchanan
published: Tuesday | June 3, 2003

BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:

MINISTER OF Water & Housing, Donald Buchanan, said that some 10,000 houses will be built across the country under Operation Pride this year. He said 2,000 of these houses would be constructed in the Mountainside division of his south west St. Elizabeth constituency.

Mr. Buchanan was speaking at a PNP meeting at Watchwell Square in St. Elizabeth on Sunday night, June 1.

"Comrades come June 19, we are not going to allow the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) another chance to wreck Local Government. Look at what we have been doing for you as it relates to water supply, roads, electricity and transportation, so go and support the party you can rely on," he told supporters, who gathered at the meeting.

He said that the People's National Party (PNP) has delivered on its promises to the people, and will continue to do so. He said that some $400 million would be spent this year to rehabilitate the Hunslow Irrigation System and the expansion of the Greater Pedro Plains Water Supply System.

"The party's aim is to win all four divisions in the constituency because when I am spending these monies I don't want any Labourite Councillor around me," said Mr. Buchanan, while the crowd responded with large cheers. The PNP MP said that he wants to work with the People's National Party Councillors around him to continue the development of the constituency.

The party's candidates, who were nominated on Friday to contest the June 19 poll in the constituency are marketing executive, Dorothy Buchanan, Brompton division; businessman Kern Smalling, Black River division; journalist David Satchwell, Mountainside division and farmer, Seymour Simpson, Pedro Plains division.
