ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER of Police, Arthur 'Stitch' Martin, has been given the task to whip into action the multi-faceted, multi-tasked unit which now comes under the heading Mobile Reserve.
Under the new crime fighting plan, all specialised outfits including the Motorised Patrol and the Special Anti-Crime Task Force have been brought under ACP Martin's portfolio.
Known as a strong disciplinarian, the Assistant Commissioner, with over 35 years experience under his belt in the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), has been a major player in the fight against crime for a long time.
He enlisted to the JCF in May, 1967, and has been promoted through the ranks from Acting Corporal to his current post as Assistant Commissioner of Police.
He has served as commander in St. Catherine, Kingston Western, St. Andrew North and St. Thomas. He also did stints at the Narcotics Division, the Criminal Investigations Branch and the Internal Affairs Division.
ACP Martin has held the top position at the elite Special Anti-Crime Task Force (SACTF) where he began as one of six officers who started out with the squad in 1993, then under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner, Lloyd Service.
Mr. Martin was the commanding officer for the July 1999 West Kingston operation. He has also commanded several other major operations in violence-stricken communities such as Grants Pen and downtown Kingston.
