By Ayanna Kirton, Staff ReporterENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS, one of the major Subscriber (cable) Television providers in Kingston & St. Andrew will be expanding its operations within the next month, according to Stephen Chung, the company's managing director.
The company, which has been operating the cable television business since 1995, now has offices in the Matilda's Corner Plaza in St. Andrew but will be moving to a larger, more convenient location.
"If everything goes according to plan, we hope to move to our new location in July," said Chung, explaining that the decision to relocate was made to address the concerns of customers who have complained about the limited parking and security of the current locale.
The company's new two-storey facility will be located about five minutes away from Matilda's Corner at 97 Hope Road, and will have adequate parking, conveniences for disabled customers, as well as a drive through teller for quick bill
payment.
Entertainment Systems is now working to provide cable modem services as a value-added service to all of its subscribers, in the near future, Chung said. The cable modem system allows telephone, cable television and Internet services to be accessed simultaneously through one cable.
According to the managing director, in March 2002 Entertainment Systems began providing high-speed Internet access to its customers but have since ceased provision of the service due to difficulties with its local provider.
"We intend to resume in a few months with a new provider or on our own," said Chung. With the cable modem system the possibility of the company providing video conferencing and other data services also exist.
If approval is granted by the local regulatory body, the Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR), Entertainment Systems will be able to provide telephone services to its subscribers in the near future, said Chung.
