By Tanesha Dyer, Freelance WriterWESTERN BUREAU: IF THERE was any thoughts that the Grace Thrillers has lost the 'thrilling' touch, they was certainly dispelled on Sunday when they delivered a superb performance at the Dumfries Community Centre in St. James.
The event, dubbed 'The Gospel Explosion', saw numerous artistes delivering a variety of stints. The event, which had a two-hour late start, was filled with soul-stirring performances which captivated the large gathering.
Initially there was not much fanfare from the audience when Mr. Thompson announced at 11:25 p.m. that the special guests were to appear next on-stage. In fact one woman shouted, "Whey di real Grace Thrillers dem deh?"
However, when the group came on-stage they wasted no time and delivered hit after hit to the delight of patrons who jumped to their feet and danced up a storm.
The melodious sounds of the group filled the night air and had patrons singing and clapping along. They started with a medley of choruses consisting of Majesty, What A Mighty God, Give Me That Old Time Religion and others which lasted for almost ten minutes. Their energy and delivery were awesome.
The group slowed things down a bit with Why, a song on their new album. What followed were some classics including Can't Even Walk and God's Love, much to the delight of the audience, which consisted of quite a few elderly people.
An altar call ended the Grace Thrillers' performance. In the final analysis the Grace Thrillers came, saw and thrilled and no one could tell that they only recently went through a major reshuffling.
The a capella group CB Singers also provided good entertainment with Jesus On The Main Line and Hear My Prayer Lord. They exited the stage to a loud applause.
The gospel concert, sponsored by Member of Parliament Mr. Edmund Bartlett, climaxed a week of activities in East Central St. James.
