ACTION IN the Jamaica Cricket Association's national championship moves into high gear today as teams race for the top honours in the Super League and the Senior League and others fight to avoid the drop from the Super League.
With three matches to go in the Super League, Jamaica Defence Force and St. Elizabeth are tied at the top on 19 points each, Melbourne are on 12 points, Westmoreland on 10, Kensington on eight and St. Catherine Parish on four. With four rounds to go in the Senior League from which two teams will be promoted to the Super League, one from Zone A and one from Zone B, Clarendon, on 23 points, lead Zone A ahead of Manchester and Boys' Town, also on 23, lead Zone B ahead of Tivoli.
Of the 11 matches scheduled, therefore, the big matches will involve those in the hunt for top honours and those fighting against relegation and in the Super League. They include JDF versus St. Ann at Kaiser, St. Elizabeth against Westmoreland at Allan Rae Oval and Melbourne versus at St. Catherine CC at Melbourne Oval.
In Zone A of the Senior League, the big one will be between leaders Clarendon and Manchester at Manchester High, and with Tivoli expecting to be too good for Kingston & St. Andrew Cricket Association who are in the cellar on two points, in Zone B it will Boys' Town versus Portland who are in third spot on 17 points.
Other matches scheduled: Super League - Kingston versus Kensington at Sabina Park, St. Catherine Parish against Lucas at Port Esquivel; Senior League Zone A - Hanover versus Police at Elgin Town, Trelawny against St. James at Elletson Wakeland; Senior League Zone B - St. Mary versus St. Thomas at Westmoreland Oval.
