Link salaries to economic reality
published: Friday | June 20, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

NO PUBLIC sector group within the country has gotten a 100 per cent increase in salary over the past three years. Given the revelations since the October 16 elections, why should the politicians' salaries be increased? If this was a private company the majority of them would have been fired or asked to take a salary cut.

Babies are misplaced/missing only God really knows, at which point they threaten us with increased health cost. I could go on and on, the reality is that these salaries should be linked in some shape or form to the economic reality of the country, whether a fixed percentage being linked to the performance or being determined by an independent non-political committee (God bless if you can find one in this country).

I am, etc.,
