Good victory, but time to leave, Seaga

THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE ISLAND'S 13th Local Government elections are now history. The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has won its first election since 1986. Congratulations!
Certainly, the People's National Party (PNP), considering its political record over the past 14 years, very much deserved to lose. In fact, the PNP needed to lose from as early as 1997, but Mr Seaga's presence had proven more helpful to the PNP than for the JLP.
In light of this win, now is the opportune time for Mr. Seaga to relinquish the leadership of the JLP. He should fully understand that this win was more so a factor of the people growing hostile to the PNP and wanting to send the PNP a strong wake-up message, than it was a matter of the people willingly and consciously gravitating toward the JLP under Mr. Seaga's leadership.
Ensure the JLP's continued momentum, Mr. Seaga. The JLP and the larger Jamaica are depending on you.
