Take necessary precautions
published: Wednesday | June 25, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ in your recent publication of the experience of a Jamaican returning resident from Canada. As a returned resident myself I feel particularly aggrieved.

I would like to send a warning to my fellow Jamaicans living abroad with plans of visiting or returning home permanently. Make arrangements with your friends and relatives to collect you at the airport. If you cannot make these arrangements check with the police or security agencies as to the validity of a taxi.

What can be done locally? The taxi operators themselves should organise to ensure no criminals infiltrate their ranks. If not, within a short time no one will engage them.

The Govt./Police must make plans to frustrate these evil creatures that could destroy our tourism industry and the good name of Jamaica.

I am, etc.,

A.S. BYFIELD
