Fix bad roads
published: Wednesday | June 25, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

RECENTLY A caller on a 'talk show' expressed his disgust re the sloppy, unhealthy and eroded road conditions existing at North Parade in close proximity to the JUTC bus terminus, because of waste water flowing down King Street.

Indeed, this problem has occurred before and must be addressed quickly. I also believe that the KSAC or NWA should invite the designated engineer to view the Victoria Avenue/South Camp Road junction (by Palace Amusement Co.) where the water was submerged with excellent results.

The relevant authorities must also, as a matter of urgency, inspect grating placed over the main cross-drains in Harbour View which heavy vehicles traverse daily. Some are in a disgraceful and indeed dangerous condition. However, irresponsible citizens "fe tap stuff dem wid ole chimmey, bottles, pampers and other garbage, den ask wha de MPM a do" when rain falls and inevitably floods the streets/yards.

Of course missing road and bus stop signs should be 're-erected' as soon as financially practicable.

I am, etc.,

V.E. 'RUKSHUS' MUIR

Kingston 17
