
NATIONAL MEN'S 200 metre champion Usain Bolt will head a 16-member Jamaican team to the third IAAF World Youth Championships in Sherbrooke, Canada from July 9-13.
Also included in the team are Under-18 sprint champion Andre Wellington and junior sprinter Aneisha McLaughlin who clocked 23.49 for sixth in the women's 200m final at last weekend's National Senior and Junior Championships.
Jamaica has a good record at the meet which attracts athletes in the 15-17 age group. Veronica Campbell, who won the 100 metres gold in 1999, went on to clock record times at the World Junior Championships in Santiago, Chile in 2000.
At the 2001 renewal in Debrecen, Hungary, Jamaica won six medals including one gold, two silver and three bronze.
The members of the squad are: Females - Samantha Henry (100m, medley), Sherline Duncan (100m, 200, medley), Aneisha McLaughlin (200m, medley), Sonita Sutherland (400m, medley), Arusha McKenzie (800m), Latoya Greaves (100m hurdles), Trishana McGowan (400m hurdles), Tamara Francis (long jump).
Males: Andre Wellington (100m, 200m, medley), Renaldo Rose (100m, medley), Usain Bolt (200m, 400m, medley), Michael Gardener (400m), Davian Parker (800m), Rudolph Lowe (110m hurdles, medley), Josef Robertson (400m hurdles, medley), Jermaine Alphous Jackson (high jump, long jump).
