Invaders challenge Los Perfectos in crucial game
published: Wednesday | June 25, 2003

WESTERN BUREAU:

INVADERS OF Trelawny must beat Los Perfectos of Manchester in today's penultimate round of matches in the Jamaica Football Federation's National Premier League qualifying competition when they meet at the Elleston-Wakeland Community Centre, starting at 3:30 p.m.

Despite being in second place on seven points, one less than leaders Santos of KSAFA, Invaders have to get full points today if they are to keep alive their hopes of being one of the two teams to advance to next season's NPL.

After picking up just one point from their last two games and coming off an upset loss to the improving Star Cosmos on Sunday, the Paul 'Tegat' Davis coached team must establish their home dominance.

This will be their second home game however and after beating Los Perfectos 4-1 in their first meeting at Brooks Park, Invaders will start favourites to get maximum points.

On paper, the home team should win easily as the match-up shows the best offence up against the worst defence as Los Perfectos have given up the most goals so far in the competition, seven after four games.

On the other hand, Invaders, led by Greg Taylor and Delroy Ellis, have scored seven goals, including four against Los Perfectos in the first meeting at Brooks Park.

In the day's other game, leaders Santos host Star Cosmos (six points) at Bell Ziadie Stadium. A victory would seal Santos' promotion.

The competition ends on Sunday with the final round of games.
