JAMAICA YESTERDAY increased their medal haul at the World Special Olympics Summer Games to 10, with the addition of one silver and two bronze.
The breakdown of medals now reads two gold, four silver and four bronze. The silver was won the 4 x 25 m relay team (mixed), while Letisha Murphy won bronze in the 1500 m and Anna-Kay Murphy in the 400m.
In other early results, Jamaica's volleyball team (mixed) defeated Puerto Rico in straight sets 25-10, 25-11 to stay on course for a medal, while in basketball the Jamaicans got the better of Bahamas 56-50 to also stay in the running for a medal. In the match of the day, Jamaica's volleyball team beat the US. They won the sets 25-15, 13-25, 15-7 to record one of the most exciting victories of the tournament.
Also of note is that Jamaican athlete Valentinos Robinson on 37 total points, is in the running for the MVP Award for the Games. The Jamaican team of 50 athletes is competing in Dublin thanks to the sponsorship of Digicel.
