THE EDITOR, Sir:
RECENTLY, A good friend of mine decided to test the efficiency of the postal service. We both work at King Street in downtown Kingston, she at Public Building East, and I at Public Building West.
Public Building West is that building on King Street opposite the Supreme Court. It forms the block between Barry Street and Tower Street. General Post Office is at the Barry Street end of Public Building West, and my office is at the Tower Street end of the said Public Building West. With very little energy, I can shout from my end of the building to anybody at the Barry Street end.
Public Building East is the Supreme Court building.
As part of the test, my good friend walked from her office at Supreme Court building and posted a letter at the General Post Office. It was addressed to me, on the same building as the General Post Office.
The letter, when I eventually received it, bore the General Post Office postmark dated June 4, 2003. I only received it on June 17, 2003, nearly two weeks later.
Did I hear Minister Phillip Paulwell say, sometime last year, that if internal mail were not delivered within 24 hours of posting, then the sender would be refunded? If he did, was that youthful exuberance or what?
I am, etc.,
