Life, a matter of choice not chance

THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONGRATULATIONS TO Mr. Seaga and his supporters. This depicts the true meaning of democracy. The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters were overwhelmed with joy. Who could blame them anyway when the People's National Party (PNP) failed them (including yours truly) miserably. I have not seen my Member of Parliament since the last election. I glimpsed him on television insulting a member of the opposition. As I recall, he has not even come around to say thank you to us for voting for him. What a pity.
I honestly think that the JLP won not so much by voter turnout but because many supporters of the PNP refused to vote (call it "sending a message" if you may). Now, Mr. Seaga and Mr. Patterson can both step down in honour and give someone who is younger a chance. As for Mr. Michael Peart, he can give Skeffrey a chance. He is young, vivacious, eager and a "people person" at his worst.
Well, I hope this will be a lesson to both parties. This reminds me of my philosophy: "Life is not a matter of chance but a matter of choice. It is not a thing to be waited for but a thing to be achieved."
