Negative action
published: Monday | June 30, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I FIND your editorial 'Affirmative action upheld' in The Gleaner of June 26, 2003, most disturbing. Many of your readers must be aware that until recently, there was restricted entry to many universities in America and Canada for people of Jewish background.

It seems to me that once race becomes an acceptable criteria for entry, it can also be reversed and affirmative action can become negative action all too quickly.

I am, etc.,

GEOFFREY DES PINTO
