Give ear to our plea
published: Monday | June 30, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ONCE AGAIN at the polls, the people of Westmoreland have proven their love, loyalty and support to the ruling People's National Party (PNP) by securing victory for the party the only parish to do so in the recently held Local Government elections.

Many Jamaicans have always asked why Westmoreland has remained so loyal, faithful and committed to the PNP and on the other hand, you do not see what the PNP has done for Westmoreland. Westmoreland has gotten little or next to no attention from the Prime Minister, Central Government, the Member of Parliament, and some councillors, but yet we still vote for the PNP whenever the time arises? Why?

Westmoreland is the second poorest parish in the island. It is very underdeveloped, somewhat backward and a bit filthy, some communities do not have the basic infrastructure such as proper roads, drainage, electricity, sewage, telephone (just to name a few), and these situations are known by the PNP officials both locally and nationally and yet they turn a blind eye and deaf ears on the situations/conditions.

For too long now, the PNP has been neglecting and treating our parish with utter disrespect and scant regard, throughout all that, we still continue to be loyal to the party. Westmorelites are known to be very patient, courageous and very determined, we will bear so much until we cannot take anymore.

I say this to say, it's full time that the PNP give us some recognition and treat us with regard. We have waited long enough and once again, we are demanding it. So in closing, I hope the authorities will read this and give ear to our plea.

I am, etc.,

FRANKLIN FRANCIS
