Alleged murder suspect killed

A MAN who the police said was a murder suspect and was among a group of gunmen who opened fire at them in Grants Pen, St. Andrew on Saturday afternoon, was shot dead and an illegal Taurus 9-mm semi-automatic pistol taken from him.

He has been identified only as 'Leslie' and 'Titty Grip'.

The police said he was implicated in Saturday morning's killing of 43-year-old vendor, Boncroft Boyd, who was gunned down along Constant Spring Road, St. Andrew.

CHALLENGED BY GUNMEN

According to police reports, at about 5:30 p.m., the police carried out an operation in Grants Pen. When they approached a premises on Grants Pen Avenue, the lawmen said they were challenged by the group of gunmen who opened fire at them. The police said they returned the fire and 'Titty Grip' was hit and later pronounced dead on arrival at the Kingston Public Hospital. The police said the serial number of the gun they took from the dead man, was erased.

In a separate incident, the St. Andrew South police are awaiting the results of a post-mortem to determine the cause of death of a man, whose decomposed body was discovered by passers-by on Saturday afternoon along the Hunts Bay causeway, which links Kingston with Portmore, St. Catherine.

POLICE ATTACKED

And a policeman based in Clarendon narrowly escaped death on Wednesday night when three reportedly gunmen attacked him and a friend in Hopedale, Spanish Town, St. Catherine.

Anthony Allison, 40, otherwise called 'Juju', a friend of the policeman, succumbed to gunshot wounds. The policeman, Darren Reid, was also shot and has been hospitalised in stable condition.

Police reports are that both men were engaged in a conversation on Stewart Avenue in the town when they were pounced on by gunmen, who immediately opened fire at them.
