World Bank official ends three-day visit
published: Tuesday | July 1, 2003

SHENGMAN ZHANG, managing director of the World Bank, leaves the island today following a three-day visit at the invitation of Finance and Planning Minister, Dr. Omar Davies.

The Ministry, in a release, said it was the World Bank official's first visit to Jamaica. The visit primarily served to allow Mr. Zhang to familiarise himself with the country.

Mr. Zhang had a varied itinerary, which included visits to several infrastructural and social projects, including the Old Harbour Bypass portion of Highway 2000, which covers sections of St. Catherine and Clarendon, as well as the Private Power Company at Rockfort, eastern Kingston.

In addition, Mr. Zhang met with the Finance Minister and his economic team where he discussed Jamaica's economic programme and World Bank assistance. He met separately with Opposition Leader, Edward Seaga, as well as members of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica.
