THE EDITOR, Sir:
NOT TO my surprise, the "Flexi week" issue has been brought back to the table once more. The President of the Jamaica Employers Federation has pledged his firm commitment to lobby for the speedy implementation of the proposal to change the labour legislation to incorporate the two main worship days, Saturday and Sunday as normal working days.
Despite the concerns of church leaders vigorously put forward during previous consultations on the matter, the government continues to turn a blind eye on the socio-economic and religious consequences the change will have on family life and the church.
Sabbath-keepers most remain devoted to their religious belief that Saturday is the Sabbath of the Lord and no secular work should be done on that day. This belief is rooted in Biblical doctrines and all Sabbath-keeping denominations must stick to their commitment in proclaiming and preserving the truth concerning the Seventh-day Sabbath no matter how strongly it is opposed by the public.
Sabbath-keepers will be faced with increased pressure in the workplace and new job seekers will find it increasingly difficult to obtain employment.
I am, etc.,
