Alleged cocaine conman shot dead
published: Tuesday | July 1, 2003

By Stephanie Elliott, Gleaner Writer

CLARENDON:

EXTOL SNAITE, 32 years old, of Backstreet, Hayefield, Clarendon was shot and killed in the area on Thursday. An unidentified accomplice, who also received injuries as a result of gunshot wounds, is currently hospitalised.

The allegations are that at 2:30 p.m., a group of four men in a white Toyota motorcar came to the area to buy cocaine from Snaite and his accomplice. Snaite produced the substance to the men, but it was discovered to be flour and not cocaine. Infuriated by the set-up, the men reportedly opened fire at Snaite, shooting him in the head. His accomplice too was shot during the altercation. Snaite died on the spot, while his accomplice was rushed to the hospital.

According to the May Pen CCN Office, the gunmen then drove from the area at high speed. A licenced registration number was given for the motor vehicle allegedly involved in, but a police source has revealed that they do not wish to disclose that information at this time.

Investigations are currently under way to determine who is the owner of the vehicle and other particulars relevant to the case.

According to a resident, men are always coming to the area, sometimes from as far as Westmoreland to buy the drug. "But dem always fine out sey a flour when it late. That time the men dem gone spend dem money," the resident said.

The Exeter police are investigating the case.
