Be prepared for new leaders

THE EDITOR, Sir:
IN A culture which does not readily accept changes, it has now dawned on Jamaica that we must now be prepared to welcome new leaders into the two major political parties.
It is my opinion that Edward Seaga was potentially the best man for the job, but it's just a pity that the country did not get to realise this potential. With all the personal feelings aside, we must now be prepared to choose from two new sets of political administrations. It is without a doubt that the traditional Jamaican view must change, we must now grow up from our childish views of sticking to one side and not being able to change one's pastures of loyalty, without it being considered a complete betrayal of one's allegiance. We are Jamaicans, and as such must now learn to do what we think is best for us as a nation. We can no longer look to just having a feast, of whatever kind, only around the fruitfulness of one's parties campaign on the road to an election, after which misery is bestowed on us as if we're stupid ducks.
I have assessed the various options with which we have been presented, and I must say that, both teams for the future look good.
For the PNP, Peter Phillips is the most credible person for the post of president, even though he too at times seems confused about his current ministry's chain of command, while Portia might make a good finance minister. The JLP should have Mr. Shaw as president, despite his severe aggression, which might work in his favour as a leader, and as his finance minister, a man whose vision and determination I truly admire, Mr. Golding.
