Paternity leave no way
published: Wednesday | July 2, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I READ with interest the 'Letter of the Day' written by Paula on June 26th, 'Should Fathers get Paternity Leave'.

How on God's earth should/could this letter be/(have been) made 'Letter of the Day' beggars description. Such a letter might make credence in England, Norway and Sweden with economy to back-up/support their whims and fancies but in Jamaica what of our economy. We can't even afford maternity leave for mothers much less paternity for men.

At the rate things are going there would be (many) men who would be on permanent leave for a long time considering having impregnated one woman (after another) or the other.

Is Paula Johnson encouraging more slackness in Jamaica. She speaks of family she speaks of bold direction what direction and to cover it up with the word commendable.

This would be the most unprogressive piece of legislation ever seen or hoped for in the annals of 'our' civil society.

We have made honourable steps with maternity leave please not let us be discretionate. Man was never made to be a mother nor a mother a man.

I am, etc.,
