Two Mayors for one parish!
published: Wednesday | July 2, 2003
THE EDITOR, Sir:
ST. CATHERINE is the only parish of the fourteen in Jamaica that will be having two mayors that will cost taxpayers over $4 million yearly for salary not to mention travelling allowances etc., and all for political expedience and vote-catching.
St. Catherine can hardly find money to remove its garbage and clean the streets, yet we must pay two mayors when we could do with one and save money. Can Portmore generate sufficient revenue so as to take care of its business or the rest of St. Catherine must suffer for the benefit of the sunshine city?
On the 19th June 2003 the people spoke and showed who is the boss and not Percival Patterson the lawyer-politician, who when an election is near always comes up with some fancy promises so as to sweet-mouth us and secure votes for his political party. The people are now beginning to wise up although too late, but better to be late than never. The economy of a country is paramount, you must fix it then you can talk to us; until then go away with your false promises.
